When I launch the "Iowa IEP" application, I get messages that say the files are being opened as "read only", and I can't create any student records or IEPs. What's wrong?

If you copied the EIEP system from a CD or other non-recordable media, and left the CD in the CD-ROM player, it is possible that you have opened the copy of the system that is on the CD. Since you cannot record to the CD from within the EIEP application, your computer is telling you that it cannot save to the disk on which the open copy of the EIEP is located.

When the Iowa EIEP System is installed on a Windows computer by being copied to a folder on the computer's hard drive (or to the desktop) from a CD, the files will usually keep the "attribute" of read-only that they had on the CD. That "read-only" attribute must be re-set in order for any information to be written. To re-set the EIEP system attributes:

With the application closed, right click on the Iowa IEP Folder on your hard drive.

Select "Properties".

Uncheck the box marked "Read Only".

Click "Apply", and choose to "Apply the changes to this folder, subfolders and files".

Click OK.

Open the "Iowa IEP" application again and add a student.

If you are still getting "read-only" messages, then try this:

Copy the "fixiid" or "fixiid.bat" file into your Iowa IEP Folder on your hard drive. (If it is not already in the "Iowa IEP Folder", you can download it here.

After copying "fixiid" into your "Iowa IEP Folder", double click on the "fixiid" icon.

Open the Iowa IEP application again and add a student.
