Future versions of the EIEP system will probably have value lists, such as your list of banked goals and milestones, automatically exported for import into an updated version.
At this time, however, the current version of the runtime does not have that capability.
Open the old version of the EIEP, and go to the list of goals, milestones, or other "editable" list that you want to transfer to your new updated version of the EIEP. Let's use the example of "goals".
(1) Go to "Edit" in the "goal" value list.
(2) When the "Edit" dialog box opens, choose "select all" from the "Edit" menu in the menu bar, or use your mouse to highlight all the text in the edit box, the entire list of goals that you have banked or stored there.
Launch your Windows notepad, Macintosh SimpleText, or any other word processing application, and create a new document. Name the document "goals" or " all EIEP value lists" or something that makes sense to you.
Paste the text you have just copied from the editable value list into the new word processing document.
Save the document.
If you want to have a separate document for each value list you will be transferring, create another new document, and go to the next value list in the EIEP that you want to transfer. Perform steps 1 and 2, above, on this value list. Then go to your new document or to the single document in which you plan to record all the value lists, and paste what you have just copied from the text box. Be sure to save the document.
If you decide to use a single document, be sure to put several paragraph returns or a horizontal line or a page break between the lists you are pasting there, so you know where one stops and the next begins later, when you need to copy the text you have pasted into the word processing document. It might not be a bad idea to also label each list.
When you have copied all the value lists you want to transfer, exit the old version of the EIEP system.
Launch the new version of the EIEP system.
Go to the word processing document where you have recorded the text from the first value list you want to transfer. Copy that text. In the example above, that would be the text from the goals value list.
Go to the first first list of values in the EIEP that you want to transfer. Go to "edit" in the otherwise blank menu where the list should be. Paste the text you have just copied into the "edit" dialog box when it comes up. Your goals or other list should now look just like it did in your old version of the EIEP.
Please note that this is a document that I would probably save with my student record backups, so that if there were a hard drive crash or other loss of data, at least some of the value list text would be preserved and could be copied into a clean version of the EIEP system, along with your backed-up student records.
